What to expect on your contact lens exam

Have you decided that you want to try contact lenses for the first time? If you are tired of glasses, you will find that a contact lens appointment is just a bit different than a traditional eye exam for glasses. Our eye doctors at Advanced Eyecare in Las Vegas would like you to know what to expect during your first contact lens exam.

.

Taking Your Medical History

One of the first things you will do is fill out some paperwork that tells the eye doctor about your medical history. Be honest about any prior diagnoses and medications. If you have any concerns, you can note them on these forms as well. They may not impact your ability to wear contact lenses.

Testing Your Eye Health

One of our eye doctors will assess the general health of your eyes. This includes using a few diagnostic tools to help us look for signs of conditions like glaucoma and cataracts. Early intervention can be used to treat these conditions before causing vision loss.

Performing a Vision Test

Our eye doctor will perform a vision test next. This exam is not unlike the test you take to determine your glasses prescription. You will look through a machine and use different lenses to view the letters across the room. You will tell the optometrist which letters are more clear.

Trying on Contact Lenses

After the general health of your eyes is assessed, the eye doctor will measure your eyes and determine which prescription is right for you. You will try on a set of contacts and see how they feel. Your vision will be tested again. You will be asked to wear the contacts after you leave and come in again in a couple of weeks. The doctor will look at the contacts to make sure they fit well and make adjustments as needed.
